Map to becoming a network engineer

The good news is that network engineers are highly in demand. Network engineers are in high demand as companies invest in faster technology and mobile networks.
What is a Network Engineer?
Network engineers (also known as network architects) design, construct, and manage networks to ensure that they function optimally.
As a network engineer, your responsibility is to build an organization’s IT infrastructure (and, by default, the entire company).
Network technicians and IT administrators help with IT tasks and troubleshooting, but network engineers are responsible for the design and improvement of networks.
Depending on the company you work for, you may be responsible for creating and managing wireless and physical networks, troubleshooting problems, and researching and integrating new technologies. Here are some common networking career questions:
Networking is a promising career. According to The Bureau of Labor Statistics, network engineer employment is expected to grow by 6 percent between 2016 and 2026. This is higher than the average salary for all occupations. The average salary for junior network engineers is $64,000. The average salary for network engineers is $59,000
The first step to preparing for a career as an IT professional is to earn CCNA certification. You must pass one exam to earn CCNA certification. This exam covers a wide range of IT fundamentals, including the latest software development skills and job roles. The CCNA certification gives you the foundation to move your career in any direction.

Cisco Certified Network Professional Security (CCNP).
The CCNP Security certification is a proof of your security solutions skills. You must pass two exams to earn CCNP Security certification. One covers core security technologies, and one covers security concentration. This allows you to tailor your certification to your technical focus. Every exam in the CCNP Security program now earns an individual Specialist certificate, which means you are recognized for your achievements. The core exam focuses on security infrastructure knowledge. The core exam is also the qualifying test for CCIE Security certification. Candidates who pass the core exam are eligible to schedule and take CCIE labs within the validity period of their core exam. Concentration exams focus on emerging topics and industry-specific subjects. Preparing for concentration exams can be done by attending the appropriate Cisco training courses.

Additional Skills Required to Become A Network Engineer
For a successful engineering career, technical ability is not enough. Soft skills like communication, teamwork, and critical thinking are essential.
One study found that more than half of employers believed communication and teamwork were more important then academic results.
Poor communication can make a great IT project fail. Without leadership skills, network engineers cannot manage teams. Without creative problem-solving, optimizing networks is impossible.
Soft skills are easily learned. A recent study by Boston College, Harvard University, and the University of Michigan showed that soft skills training can increase productivity and retention by 12 per cent and can provide a 250 percent return-on-investment in productivity.
