Medicare Part A is a health care plan that is sponsored by the federal government. This coverage covers expenses that are related to hospitalization, otherwise known as inpatient expenses. Almost all Medicare recipients are enrolled in Medicare Part A coverage automatically when first eligible.

If you are required to pay a premium for Medicare Part A it may cost you upwards of $413 (2017) each month. Enrollees qualify for Medicare Part A Premium-Free at 65 if:
You are receiving retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board or are eligible to but have not filed for them yet
You or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment

Enrollees qualify for Medicare Part A Premium-Free under 65 at:
You have received Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits for 24 months
You have End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) & meet certain requirements
